Undergraduate Research Assistant
This research position includes transcribing, synthesizing, and interpreting archival materials about Indigenous presence, dispossession, and agriculture on the Tejon Reservation in Southern California. It also involves other archival research as necessary, working with collections from the Huntington Library about the history of water and water engineering from about 1850-1890.
Duties include:
- 25%: Transcribe handwritten notes from a digitized archive of field notes by John Harrington, an anthropologist who worked in California at the turn of the century.
- 25%: Summarize findings about the use of water and people's movements on and around the Tejon, at the south end of the San Joaquin Valley
- 25%: Weekly or biweekly meetings to discuss progress and plan next steps
- 25% Track archival citations for a book manuscript in progress.
This position will require about 2-4 hours per week.
